Verizon Wireless hotspot vs. tethering vs. portable hotspots

  • June 19, 2021

Verizon Wireless has started offering wireless hotspots, but its hotspot option has become a little confusing to those trying to figure out where to go from here.

The hotspot feature lets you use the same Wi-Fi signal in multiple locations, but you can only use it when you’re tethered to the same hotspot.

Verizon says that’s because its new wireless hotsphere features are not compatible with other wireless hotsps.

You can’t tether to an outdoor hotspot using the tethering option, and you can’t use it on an indoor hotspot without tethering to it.

You’ll need to tether to a hotspot while tethered and then disconnect from the device while it’s in the same location.

That’s because tethering isn’t compatible with a Wi-Gig-compatible device.

Verizon also says that tethering is not compatible when using Wi-Pass, Wi-FTP, or Wifi-NFC.

There’s no word on when Verizon will add the tether option to the Verizon Wireless Hotspot app.

Verizon Wireless is now selling the new hotspot in the US and Canada for $35 a month.
