New N.Y. Jets start 3-0, end playoff drought with win over Jets
NEW YORK — The New York Jets finally got their first win of the season Tuesday night.
Coach Todd Bowles was pleased with the result.
“You just don’t want to be out there and not be able to play, especially against a team that’s been in the playoffs three straight years,” Bowles said.
We’re excited about where we’re at and how we’re going to be able play this season.
“The Jets took a 3-1 lead into the third period.
The Jets were down 1-0 after two minutes when Blake Wheeler scored his second goal of the game.
Brett Smith’s first goal since returning from an upper-body injury ended the scoring.
The win puts the Jets into the playoff picture and gives them an edge over the Minnesota Wild, who beat the Jets 4-3 on Tuesday.
Minnesota (11-6-2) leads the Atlantic Division with 35 points, while the Jets (13-8-3) lead the West with 39 points.
The Wild have 35 points.
